Jason is the first member of the 3D range to arrow wild game this year. He took this hog in the spillway in Mid September. He credited the hours on RCR course with giving him the confidence to make the 25 yard shot. Jason took this beast with a 3 blade Rage mechanical broadhead that did unbelievable damage. No problem finding this one.

Probably no more official shoots now that archery season is about to start. But the range is open for anyone to practice if you like.

We probably need a broadhead target or two for our hunting practice.

Laura Francese, THE Martin Girl and a 2007-2008 Buffalo Jills Cheerleader, has become an honorary member of the RCR 3D range. Laura sent me an autographed calendar and a few pictures to hang in the RCR lodge. It was rough at first to get her to agree after she saw the website and all of you ugly rednescks, but my charm prevailed:

All joking aside, I have had the good fortune to trade some emails with Laura over the past few months and she is a number one, class act. She can shoot the lights out of her bow and she is no doubt an asset to the sport and just a real down to earth cool chick.

A note about Sawtooth Oaks



The Sawtooth Oak tree, Quercus acutissima, is a wide spreading shade or lawn tree. This deciduous tree is a great source for wildlife food because it begins to produce acorns in its sixth year in the nursery. It is a highly prized oak for wildlife enthusiasts because of the short time it takes for the tree to produce acorns.

Sawtooth Oak trees have moderate water requirements and it has a moderate tolerance to salt and alkali soils. They do not do well when they are mowed down especially in August. It is recommended to keep all Texans away from you Sawtooths at this time or you will have to replant them by hand again the next year.

    Any hit on the target = 1 pt

    Jeff "Big Country" DePrato

Prarieville, LA. - Big Country came from a rural town in North Louisiana called Ferriday. Like other Ferridians, he can play an instrument in one hand, while drinking a beer in the other hand. Leaning to shoot a bow at the age of 4, he will be hard to handle. He owns the range so he can change the rules when he wants.. that could be challenging for the other members.

   Trey  "lightning" Webber

 
Also growing up in Ferriday, "Lightning" Webber has shot more whitetail with a bow than all other members of the club combined.  He is the most experienced shooter and can be found at the range all year long. He likes speed and shoots the fastest bow at the range.. thus the lightning nickname, but speed is not all you need...and he is so color blind that he may not see the bull's-eye that I painted blue (he he heh). Still, Vegas odds are on him for the high score.

     Jimbow "Sawtooth" Browning (Quercus Crowellian)

 
Although he grew up in the tiny Mississippi community of Natchez, his roots are in North Texas. Son of a oilman, JimBOW travels between boxing matches, to Destin, and back to the "hub" city of Natchez. A newcomer to the archery circuit, no one knows what this boy might bring to the range. He has shot two turkeys with his bow already and a hog, so he is not as green as he appears. DO NOT let this guy on any farm machinery.

             Jason and Josh Jones -        

The Jones boys  -  After taking two trophy animals last year with guns, this father and son team wanted more of a challenge. That combined with the potential loss of their hunting rights if they did not switch to bow hunting, has made them go out and buy some new toys..  Rigged out and ready for the range, they could shoot up in the standings quickly.

Don is the Buffalo River King with a spread just South of the Red Cedar Ranch. When he was little he used to shoot apples off of his cousin's head with his long bow...that could be why she has fake teeth now... anyway, Don, and his trusty companion Holly, make a fine addition to the RCR Membership. Don likes to only shoot one round. that may be because he only brings one arrow and looses it during the first round.

Take a close look at this brute Brian shot last year. It was shot less than a mile from our 3D range!. but that was when he hunted a lot.... before young Brian and his lovely wife Erin had their first child...  Being a neighbor of Red Cedar Ranch (and owning a lot of heavy equipment that we might could use one day), we had no choice but to let him join ...  uhhh.. and also he is the only one of us broke legs that stepped up to the plate to buy a hog target!

 and finally,  Honorary Member - Fred Bear - The Father or Bowhunting

•    Born in Waynesboro, PA, on March 5, 1902
•     Fred was right handed but shot left handed because he injured his right hand and had to change
•     Fred at one time stood out against tree stand hunting as it gave the hunter an unfair advantage.
•     Bear began bowhunting in 1929 with a bow carved from an $8 Osage orange stave
•     He also tackled target archery, winning Michigan's state championship in 1934, 1937 and 1939
•     Bear remained actively involved the sport he loved until his death in Gainesville, Florida, on April 27, 1988.
•     He was 86 years old.
